Four New GLP-1 Agents Approved or Approaching Market in 2026

2026 has delivered more new GLP-1 agents in a single year than any previous period. Four drugs or formulations are either newly available or approaching FDA decisions — each addressing different patient needs.

1. Foundayo (orforglipron) — Available Now

Eli Lilly's once-daily oral small-molecule GLP-1. FDA-approved April 1, 2026. The ATTAIN-1 trial showed 12.4% average weight loss at 72 weeks. Key advantage: small molecule, not a peptide — no special absorption technology needed, room temperature storage, potentially lower manufacturing costs.

2. Ozempic Tablets — Available Now

Novo Nordisk's oral semaglutide launched May 4, 2026 at 70,000+ pharmacies. Available in 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg doses. Approved for T2DM with expanded primary and secondary cardiovascular risk reduction indication. Self-pay: $149/month. Insurance copays as low as $25.

3. CagriSema — FDA Decision Pending

Novo Nordisk's fixed-dose combination of cagrilintide (amylin agonist) + semaglutide (GLP-1 agonist). REDEFINE 1: 22.7% mean weight loss, >40% achieving ≥25% reduction. Would be the first dual-mechanism injectable for obesity. FDA decision expected 2026.

4. Wegovy 7.2mg — Under Review

Higher dose of semaglutide for patients who may benefit from increased exposure. Current maximum approved dose is 2.4mg weekly. The 7.2mg dose could produce meaningfully greater weight loss for patients who plateau at lower doses. Under FDA review.
