Good News: Injectable Medications Are Allowed

TSA permits injectable medications in carry-on bags. You do NOT need to put them in checked luggage (and shouldn't—temperature control).

Temperature & Storage

Unopened pens: Store refrigerated (36-46°F / 2-8°C). Can be at room temperature (up to 86°F / 30°C) for limited time—check your specific medication's guidelines.

In-use pens: Can typically be kept at room temperature for 4-8 weeks (varies by product). Check prescribing information for your specific medication.

Never freeze. Frozen medication is ruined. Never put in checked luggage (cargo holds can freeze).

Keeping Cool While Traveling

Insulated travel case: FRIO pouches or similar cooling cases work without ice
Ice packs: Wrap pen in cloth—don't let ice touch medication directly
Hotel fridge: Store in fridge upon arrival; check temperature
Avoid direct sunlight and hot cars

International Travel

Carry prescription documentation: Doctor's letter or pharmacy label in case of questions
